Starship Scavengers plus Assignment Moon Crash adventure, softback gamebook, by Stephen Hart

“In the aftermath of the fall of the galactic spanning human empire, a few brave souls make their living as starship scavengers.

You are one of them.

A day in the office for you is exploring a dark, derelict starship looking for valuable data and salvage. Sounds great, right? Admittedly there is the issue of the aggressive alien lifeforms, rogue robots and deadly environmental hazards.

But hey, you work for yourself so it’s all good, right? And maybe, just maybe, this time you’ll make the big haul…

One book has the rules, the second book contains the adventure, or assignment as we call them in the Starship Scavenger universe.

Read the rules, draw up a character, then open the assignment book and start playing.

You read a page entry, make choices about what your character does and follow the instructions on the page. When you encounter something hostile, you fight using a dice based combat system.

If using a physical copy of the book, (which the game was designed with in mind), you use post-it notes, or paperclips to mark up the location entries so you know what has happened, should your character pass that way again on their later travels through the ship. (If using the pdf version you will need to keep a written note,)

With variable data rewards and salvage to be obtained, plus random encounters and a character generation system that effects your end of game rewards, this contains a lot of replayability.

We have based this on our popular Zilight game system but taken the system further. In Starship Scavengers we have added ranged combat options, a character generation process which directly effects how good the character is across multiple activities and made the weaponry more nuanced (as fits the sci-fi theme).

We have kept the straight forward, and quick playing – 1 point of damage for every attack dice that rolls a hit mechanic – as we know that is popular, as well as the exhaustion stat and armour mechanic from Zilight Dark Ages. Except here it is an energy shield, not metal armour!

As with all our games, we try to blend in reality with fun. Destroy a robot in Starship Scavengers and you can scavenge the remains. Find a weapon? Keep it or sell it. The choice is yours.

Can be played as a single game to see how much salvage and data you can acquire but with the character levelling up system baked into the game engine, when we release future even more challenging adventures, you can continue your adventures with your character.

The game has enough game crunch to add depth but still plays quickly and easily.”

Assignment HMS Brutus

“Assignment HMS Brutus

A great game system is nothing without a great adventure and we are very pleased with the first adventure in the Starship Scavengers universe, containing as it does, multiple challenges and choices in all locations and coming with:

  • Twelve visible locations
  • Two hidden locations
  • Traps
  • Multiple alien types
  • Rogue robots
  • Random encounters
  • Environmental hazards

All against the ticking clock of your diminishing air and power supply.”
