Peculiar Children, softback roleplaying game

“Peculiar Children is a microRPG that uses a d8 dice pool to decide the fate of a band of children with unique and bizarre powers. Outcast from society, these children and teenagers have to face off against dangers, both paranormal and mundane, that threaten their existence. It is inspired by Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children in terms of theme, and the Year Zero Engine as utilised in Tales from the Loop when it comes to mechanics.

Peculiar Children has no classes, but allows for an infinite range of Peculiarity powers alongside the three Attributes; Body, Heart, and Mind, and their associated Abilities. Using powers allows the children to gain greater chance of success by adding a d6 to their dice pool, and extra successes can be saved as Peculiar Points that allow children to use their powers in new and exciting ways. The system draws inspiration from the Year Zero Engine, though has some distinct differences, of which Peculiarity Points is just one.

Peculiar Children features artwork created by the incredible Eduardo Valdés-Hevia, whose amazing work gives the book a creepy, eerie feel. Eduardo manipulates photos from the public domain to create disturbingly peculiar children whose array of unusual and unique powers are on display. We found inspiration from Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children whose author, Ransom Riggs, collects strange photos that inspire his books.”
